The MIFA Project at the University of Osaka and MiKK were delighted to jointly host the annual “Cross-Border Family Mediation Training” in Osaka in 2024. This milestone event marked the 10th MiKK Training in Osaka, a testament to the ongoing commitment to advancing expertise in cross-border family mediation.
The 20-hour advanced training course provided in-depth coverage of key legal aspects of international family conflicts, including differences in national family legislation, the 1980 and 1996 Hague Conventions, and the Brussels IIa Regulation. The program also emphasized the importance of the child’s best interests and ensuring their voice is heard in mediation.
Participants explored practical tools and methods for mediating high-conflict cases and engaged in discussions on the unique challenges of mediating across cultures. The course drew upon the extensive expertise of the trainers and the diverse experiences of participants, creating a rich and dynamic learning environment.
Lawyers from ASEAN countries who practiced mediation or handled international family law cases were among those invited to participate, further enriching the exchange of knowledge and perspectives.
