CBFM English (Berlin)

Cross-border Family Mediation Training in English (Berlin)

Sunday, 6th – Saturday, 12th October 2024, in Berlin.

The 50-hour MiKK training IN ENGLISH aims to qualify practicing family mediators for mediation in cases of cross-border family conflicts, including mediation in cases of international child abduction as well as access and custody disputes.

The training will introduce participants to the relevant legal aspects of international family conflicts featuring

    • The 1980 and 1996 Hague Conventions,
    • The Brussels IIb (Recast) Regulation, which entered into force in August 2022. The Regulation significantly strengthens mediation, by requiring courts to consider mediation in all cases involving children, particularly in international child abduction cases.
    • Models, Specifics and Tools of mediating a Hague Convention Child Abduction  Case

Participants will be taught tools and methods for mediation in cases with high conflict potential, always with the goal of safeguarding the best interests of the child.

Key topics in this training include:

    • Models of International Family Mediation
    • Bi-lingualism and Culture in Mediation,
    • Aspects of Cross-cultural Communication,
    • Guidelines for Co-Mediation,
    • The Voice of the Child in Mediation,
    • Online Mediation,
    • Mediators-in-Court Model.

Drawing on the experiences of the participants, we look at the challenges of mediation in an intercultural context. The training uses a variety of teaching formats, including input lectures, small group work, discussions, and film footage. Case studies and role plays form an integral part of the course. Interdisciplinary collaboration is an important aspect of this training.

A team of international, multidisciplinary trainers, who are experts in their respective fields and have extensive practical experience, lead this highly interactive training, which aims to equip international mediators with the knowledge and skills necessary to mediate complex cross-border family disputes.
