MiKK is an internationally recognized, independent NGO, which has been providing its expertise to parents and stakeholders in the field of cross-border family mediation and international mediation training for 20 years.

The full 50-hour CBFM training takes place annually in Berlin both in English and in German, as well as internationally in Japan and in Singapore. Ongoing Trainings as well as Webinars are offered to MiKK Mediators on a regular basis. MiKK has conceived and successfully piloted (EU co-financed) trainings with MiKK Mediators in related fields (i.e. Voice of the Child in Mediation). MiKK provides shorter workshops on cross-border family mediation (CBFM) also for other institutions such as the Academy of European Law (ERA) & the European Judicial Training Network (EJTN). Since 2004 MiKK has delivered workshops & trainings to stakeholders in 20+ countries.

The MiKK 50-hour advanced CBFM training course aims to qualify practicing family mediators to mediate cross-border family disputes, including international child abduction, access and custody cases. The course will cover the relevant legal aspects of international family conflicts, differences in national family legislation, the 1980 and 1996 Hague Conventions, the Brussels IIa Regulation & the new Brussles IIb (Recast) Regulation which will enter into force in August 2022. The new Regulation will require judges to consider referring parents to mediation in all cases concerning children and in particular in international child abduction cases! Participants will be introduced to tools and methodologies for mediating high conflict cross-border family disputes with the aim of safeguarding the best interest of the child.

The MIFA Project at the University of Osaka and MiKK are proud to jointly organise the annual “Cross-Border Family Mediation Training” in Osaka. This 20-hour advanced training course will cover the relevant legal aspects of international family conflicts, differences in national family legislation, the 1980 and 1996 Hague Conventions, (the Brussels IIa Regulation) as well as the best interest and the voice of the child. Participants will be introduced to tools and methods for mediating high conflict cases. Drawing on the experience of the trainers and participants, participants will examine the issues associated with mediating across cultures. Lawyers from ASEAN countries who practise mediation or are involved in international family law cases are invited to attend.

MiKK Ongoing Training & Supervision

The MiKK Ongoing Training usually takes place in the autumn time in Berlin. The Ongoing Training brings together MiKK mediators and also non-MiKK mediators from all over the world. Three topical and interactive workshops (which can be booked individually) with international expert trainers are offered every year.
