Cross-Border Family Mediation Trainings

The 50-hour MiKK training in ENGLISH, GERMAN or SPANISH aims to qualify practicing family mediators to handle cross-border family conflicts, including cases of international child abduction, as well as access and custody disputes.

The training will introduce participants to the relevant legal aspects of international family conflicts featuring

• • •  The 1980 and 1996 Hague Conventions,
    • The Brussels IIb (Recast) Regulation, which entered into force in August 2022. The Regulation significantly strengthens mediation, by requiring courts to consider mediation in all cases involving children, particularly in international child abduction cases.
    • Models, Specifics and Tools of mediating a Hague Convention Child Abduction Case

Participants will be taught tools and methods for mediation in cases with high conflict potential, always with the goal of safeguarding the best interests of the child.

Drawing on the experiences of the participants, we look at the challenges of mediation in an intercultural context. The training uses a variety of teaching formats, including input lectures, small group work, discussions, and film footage. Case studies and role plays form an integral part of the course. Interdisciplinary collaboration is an important aspect of this training.
